KOOKIE
CLIENT: Personal Project / ROLES: Concept, Art Direction, Design, Photography, Copy
Kookie is a cookie brand that highlights popular recipes from around the globe and brings them to an American audience. The cookies shown here are hojarascas, a popular Mexican cookie in the States of Nuevo Leon and Coahuila.
The skull box that holds the hojarascas, an original dieline, is akin to the sugar skulls often seen on ofrendas during Día de los Muertos.
An ofrenda is an altar that families place food, drinks, toys, and photos of their ancestors. Paper candles take the place of real ones on the cookie’s display.
The line work throughout the design of the cookie box and ofrenda stand is a reflection of the hand-painted designs found on sugar skulls.
Like these hand-painted skulls, the line work on these boxes and stand was drawn and reflected by hand. This technique creates a similar feeling of authenticity and the same handcrafted look.
